LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Bates Nordic skiing sophomore
Oliver Wilson turned in the best performance of his young collegiate career on Sunday, taking 30th place out of 94 EISA skiers in the men's 10K classical technique race at the St. Lawrence Carnival.
Wilson (Dublin, N.H.) raced to the finish in 28:58.2, good for 19 carnival points and an NCAA point as well. First-year
Taylor Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) impressed in his collegiate debut, turning in a time of 29:24.5, which tied him for 40th place and earned the Bobcats 14.5 carnival points. Fellow first-yearÂ
Daven Linck (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring on the men's side for Bates, taking 54th place with a time of 30:03.8 and earning 12 carnival points.
On the women's side, sophomore
Elsa Sanborn (Burlington, Vt.) paced the Bobcats, taking 46th place out of 94 collegiate skiers with her time of 34:54.5 and earning 16 carnival points. Classmate
Hannah Grohman (Biddeford, Maine) finished 63rd in 35:53.1, earning 11 carnival points. First-year
Zoe Sumner (Minneapolis, Minn.) impressed in her collegiate debut, taking 67th in 36:11.7 and picking up nine carnival points.
Combined, the Bates men's and women's Nordic skiing teams scored 81.5 points on Sunday, good for ninth out of 11 EISA schools with Nordic skiing programs. Notably, the Bobcats finished ahead of Harvard and host St. Lawrence.Â
The St. Lawrence Carnival continues Tuesday when the Bobcats compete in the 1.3K freestyle races at Mt Van Hoevenberg.Â
