HANOVER, N.H. -- First-year
Taylor Carlson shined on Saturday in the 15K freestyle, pacing the Bates Nordic skiing team at the Dartmouth Carnival.
Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) raced to the finish at Oak Hill in 41:29.6, good for 22nd place out of 80 competitors in the men's race. His performance earned the Bobcats 23 carnival points and Carlson also picked up 10 NCAA points. Sophomore
Oliver Wilson (Dublin, N.H.) also impressed, taking 37th place in 42:20.7 and earning 12 carnival points. First-year
Forrest Slingerland (Glens Falls, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the men's team in 68th with a time of 46:00.5, earning four carnival points.
On the women's side, sophomore
Elsa Sanborn (Burlington, Vt.) paced the Bobcats, taking 66th place out of 89 racers with her time of 52:42.2, good for six carnival points. Sophomore
Margaret Voisin (Montpelier, Vt.) was 68th in 53:25.0 and senior captain
Sydney Wilmot (Jackson, Wyo.) rounded out the scoring in 77th with a time of 55:58.6.
Combined, the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams tallied 261 points over the course of two days at the Dartmouth Carnival, good for 10th place out of 14 schools.
The Nordic skiing team is back in action next Friday and Saturday at the UVM Carnival, being held at Craftsbury Outdoor Center.
