NEW ORLEANS -- The Bates women's track and field team was honored on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their achievements in the classroom.

The Bobcats achieved a team cumulative grade point average of 3.63, tied for the 46th highest in NCAA Division III, and good for All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA. The minimum threshold to be named an All-Academic Team is a 3.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

In addition, three Bobcats were named USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Athletes. 

Biology major and team captain Carli Ciavarelli '26 (Ridgefield, Conn.), biochemistry major Isabelle Demeritt '25 (Acton, Mass.), and biology major Campbell Johnson '28 (Naples, Maine) all earned this prestigious honor.

In order to be named an All-Academic athlete by the USTFCCCA, student-athletes must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period. And on top of that, athletes need to have finished the season ranked in the top 50 in the country in an individual event, or top 35 in a relay. 

Ciavarelli ranked 20th in the country in the 20-pound weight throw at 57-2 (17.42m) and 44th in the country in the hammer throw at 165-10 (50.56m), Demeritt checked in at 50th in the 3,000 meters at 10:00.56 and 33rd in the 10,000 meters at 36:11.85, and Johnson ranked 42nd in the outdoor triple jump with a top effort of 38-1.25 (11.61m).
