NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bates women's track and field team competed at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, placing 19th out of 39 schools that scored points at the meet.
The Bobcats tallied 18 points as a team, slightly ahead of NESCAC foe Trinity and just five points away from a top-15 finish.
Meet Highlights
- The Bobcats continue to shine in the triple jump. All three Bates athletes who competed in the event this weekend set personal records. First-year Campbell Johnson (Naples, Maine) placed sixth at the meet with a leap of 38-1.25 (11.61m), which ranks second on the Bates all-time performance list. Sophomore Alannah Ardrey (New York City) took eighth with her effort of 37-5.25 (11.41m), which ranks fourth all-time at Bates, and first-year Graca Bila (Westbrook, Maine) is right in the mix with her top mark of 36-4.75 (11.09m), good for 14th at the meet and a tie for fifth on the Bates all-time performance list.
- Junior captain Carli Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed second in the hammer throw with a top heave of 155-11 (47.52m).
- First-year Juno Rogers (Decatur, Ga.) finished eighth in the heptathlon with a personal-record 3,553 points, moving her up to eighth on the Bates all-time performance list. She won the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-record time of 15.39 seconds (moving her to sixth on the Bates all-time performance list in that event) and also set personal records in the long jump (16-10.75), 800 meters (2:43.75), and 200 meters (28.15 seconds).
- First-year Dara Salka (Somers, Conn.) took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.89.
- First-year Madison Alves (Stoneham, Mass.) finished 14th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.45 seconds, good for third on the Bates all-time performance list.
- The Bates 4x100 relay team of sophomore Emily Cain (Burien, Wash.), Bila, junior Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.), and Alves matched their time from the NESCAC Championships with their mark of 49.12 seconds, enough to win their section and good for seventh place out of 28 schools at New Englands.
- The Bates 4x400 relay team of sophomore Lia Traficonte (Cumberland, Maine), Bila, first-year Alexia Zamora (North Salem, N.Y.), and Salka placed seventh out of 23 schools with a season-best time of 4:03.27.
The Bobcats head to Williams College next Friday and Saturday for the Farley Inter Regional.
