PROVIDENCE, R.I., NORTHAMPTON, Mass., and AMHERST, Mass. -- The Bates women's outdoor track and field team competed at three different meets over the weekend, shaking up the program's top-10 lists in the process at the non-scoring meets.
Bates heads to Colby College on Saturday for the Pine Tree Classic.
Providence College Friar Invitational Highlights
- The Bobcats competed in only one event at Friday's Providence College Friar Invitational. But they made the most of it. Senior Isabelle Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) placed 16th out of 31 runners in the 5,000 meters in a field of mostly NCAA Division I athletes. Her personal-record time of 17:30.74 puts Demeritt sixth on the Bates all-time performance list in the 5K. Demeritt qualified for New Englands with her time, as did every runner Bates entered in the event. Senior Sophie Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) was 21st in a personal-record time of 17:37.81, while senior Phoebe Pohl (Weston, Mass.) was 25th in a season-best time of 17:45.93. Sophomores Leah White (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Gwendolyn Anderson (Boone, N.C.) both set personal records in the 5K with their times of 17:54.86 and 18:19.61 respectively.
Carla Coffey Invitational Highlights
- Junior captain Carli Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the hammer throw with her winning toss of 165-10 (50.56m) coming on her final attempt of the meet. The mark is good for third on the Bates all-time performance list.
- Sophomore Alannah Ardrey (New York City) won the triple jump with a top effort of 36-2.75 (11.04m), good for fourth on the Bates all-time performance list.
- First-year Juno Rogers (Decatur, Ga.) placed fifth in the heptathlon with 3,517 points, qualifying for New Englands and landing at ninth on the Bates all-time performance list. She set personal records in the 200 meters (28.83 seconds) and the javelin throw (55-4). Rogers finished runner-up in the long jump (16-2.25) and third in the high jump (4-10.5).
- First-year Madison Alves (Stoneham, Mass.) won the 100-meter dash in 12.79 seconds.
- The Bobcats placed 1-2 in the 400-meter hurdles, with first-year Dara Salka (Somers, Conn.) winning in 1:07.63 and first-year Graca Bila (Westbrook, Maine) taking second in 1:08.17.
- Alves, Bila, junior Gabby Monaco (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and Salka teamed up to win the 4x400 relay in 4:12.34.
UMASS Lafreniere Commonwealth Invitational Highlights
- Junior captain Lucy Paynter (Hillsborough, Calif.) set a personal record in the 800 meters with her time of 2:23.67.Â
- Sophomore Livi Sonne (Bethesda, Md.) set a personal record in the 1,500 meters with her time of 5:18.93
- Sophomore Ashley Taylor (Lexington, Mass.) set a personal record in the 5,000 meters with her time of 20:36.56.
