SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bates women's outdoor track and field team competed at Bryant University's Black & Gold Invitational on Saturday, turning in a number of strong performances.
Meet Highlights
- Junior Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.) placed seventh out of 24 runners with her time of 16.14 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, enough to qualify for both the New England Division III Outdoor Championships and the NESCAC Championships. She also qualified for NESCACs in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:12.89.
- Senior Isabelle Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) qualified for New Englands with her personal-record time of 4:48.61 in the 1500 meters, good for 12th place out of 60 runners. Three additional Bobcats qualified for NESCACs in the even, with sophomore Leah White (Ann Arbor, Mich.) clocking in at 4:58.77, first-year Mikayla Ferguson (Winchester, Mass.) crossing the finish line in 5:10.64, and senior Julia White (Orono, Maine) recording a time of 5:12.68.
- Three Bobcats qualified for New Englands in the 5,000 meters. Senior Sophie Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) led the way, taking ninth place out of 33 runners with her personal-record time of 17:45.49. Sophomore Gwendolyn Anderson (Boone, N.C.) came in 15th in a personal-record mark of 18:19.88 and senior Phoebe Pohl (Weston, Mass.) took 17th in 18:21.7. In addition, senior captain Lily Miller (Claremont, Calif.) qualified for the NESCAC Championships with her time of 18:51.81.
- Junior Evelyn Marchand (Trumbull, Conn.) qualified for NESCACs with her time of 2:25.64 in the 800 meters, good for third in her section and 18th place out of 44 runners overall.
The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday when they compete at the UMass Flagship Spring Opener.
