Women's indoor track and field finishes runner-up at Maine State Meet

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates women's indoor track and field team won five events on their way to a second-place finish at the Maine State Meet on Saturday, hosted by Bowdoin College.

The Bobcats tallied 179.5 points, good for second out of eight teams. Bates finished just behind host Bowdoin, as the Polar Bears tallied 200 points.

Meet Highlights
  • First-year Campbell Johnson (Naples, Maine) won the triple jump with a leap of 36-5.5 (11.11m) on her final attempt, good for fourth on the Bates all-time performance list. Sophomore Alannah Ardrey (New York City) was the runner-up with her personal-record mark of 36-4.25 (11.08m), maintaining her position of fifth on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • Johnson also won the high jump with her personal-record clearance of 5-1.25 (1.56m).
  • Junior captain Carli Ciavarelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the 20-pound weight throw with a personal-record toss of 55-2.75 (16.83m). She also set a new PR in the shot put with a top effort of 32-3 (9.83m).
  • Sophomore Leah White (Ann Arbor, Mich.) won the 1,000 meters in 3:06.81.
  • Senior Isabelle Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) won the mile in 5:11.40.
  • Senior Phoebe Pohl (Wayland, Mass.) placed second in the 3,000 meters in 10:31.44 and took fourth in the mile while setting a personal record of 5:14.04.
  • Junior Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.) ran the fastest prelims time in the field in the 60-meter hurdles (9.42 seconds) and placed second in the final in 9.57 seconds.
  • The Bates 4x400 relay team of senior captain Julia Brophy (Waitsfield, Vt.), first-year Madison Alves (Stoneham, Mass.), first-year Alexia Zamora (North Salem, N.Y.), and junior Gabby Monaco (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished in second place with their time of 4:12.06.
  • First-year Marie-Ève Maillet (Saint-Antoine, New Brunswick) took fifth place in both the shot put, with her toss of 37-11.5 (11.57m) and the weight throw with her top distance of 42-1.5 (12.84m). Both were personal bests, with Maillet's shot put throw putting her seventh on the Bates all-time performance list.
  • Senior Rosie McKerley (Coventry, Conn.) placed sixth in the pole vault, moving into 10th on the Bates all-time performance list with her clearance of 9-2.25 (2.80m).
  • Sophomore Emily Cain (Burien, Wash.) finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.04 seconds and Alves moved into a tie for seventh on the Bates all-time performance list with her time of 8.09 seconds.
The Bobcats are back in action next weekend at both the Lynn Ruddy Invitational at Bowdoin and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
