LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore
Seneca Moore broke his own school record on his way to victory in the 60-meter hurdles, highlighting a fun day of action Saturday at the non-scoring Bobcat Tune-up, hosted by the Bates men's indoor track and field team at Merrill Gym.
The Bobcats hosted athletes from Bowdoin, Central Maine Community College, Colby, Fitchburg State, Husson, Thomas College, and the University of Maine at Farmington.
Meet Highlights
- Moore (Lansing, Mich.) took first place in the prelims in 8.47 seconds before running a blistering time of 8.23 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles final, breaking his own school record of 8.29 seconds he set last year. He is now tied for 33rd in all of NCAA Division III this year in the event.
- Sophomore Hayden Yuzon (Glen Rock, N.J.) moved into ninth on the Bates all-time performance list in the 60-meter dash, finishing runner-up at the meet in 7.15 seconds. Yuzon also set a personal record in the 200-meter dash, finishing in sixth place in 24.07 seconds.
- Sophomore Ryan Harding (Wellesley, Mass.) took third in the 400 meters with a personal-record time of 51.21 seconds.
- Sophomore Nathaniel Aronson (West Hartford, Conn.) placed second in his first time running the 800 meters, qualifying for New Englands with his time of 1:58.20.
- Sophomore Jack Crum (Bristol, Vt.) won the 1,000 meters, qualifying for New Englands with his time of 2:36.43. The Bobcats took the top two spots in the event, with senior Henry Welch (Istanbul, Turkey) taking second in 2:38.98.
- Senior captain Ben Huston (Vergennes, Vt.) placed second in the mile in 4:20.40.
- The Bobcats took the first five spots in the 3,000 meters, led by event winner senior Nick Brown (Hopkinton, Mass.), who set a personal record with his time of 8:47.80.
- Junior Moses Hufford-Bucklin (Media, Pa.) tied for second in the high jump with a top clearance of 6-0.75 (1.85m).
- Sophomore Neil Grover (Hartford, Conn.) set a personal record in the pole vault with a top clearance of 11-1.75 (3.40m).
- First-year Nick Nicolazzo IV (Wellesley, Mass.) finished second in the long jump at 21-0.75 (6.42m).
- Senior Solomon Sakakeeny-Smith (Boston) placed second in the 35-pound weight throw with a personal-record toss of 55-9 (16.99m). Meanwhile, first-year Ryan Glaser (Rockport, Maine) fifth with his personal-record heave of 52-8 (16.05m).
Bates now prepares to compete in the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, being held this upcoming Friday and Saturday at the TRACK at new balance.
