Elsa Sanborn and
Sage Grossi both
placed 34th in their respective races to lead the Bates Nordic skiing teams in the 7.5K classic Friday at the UNH Carnival, which doubles this year as the NCAA East Regional Championship.
Sanborn (Burlington, Vt.) raced to the finish in the 24:10.60, earning 14 carnival points for the Bobcats. Fellow first-year
Hannah Grohman (Biddeford, Maine) and Bates senior captain
Eva McDonough (Woody Creek, Colo.) rounded out the scoring on the women's side in 47th and 48th place respectively.
For the men's team, Grossi (Montpelier, Vt.) recorded a time of 21:17.10, pacing the Bobcats yet again and earning 16 carnival points. First-year
Oliver Wilson (Dublin, N.H.) impressed as well with a 42nd place finish, enough for 13 carnival points. Senior
Mathias Boudreau-Golfman (Londonderry, Vt.) also got in the scoring column, taking 51st in 21:59.10 and earning 11 carnival points.
Through one day of competition at the UNH Carnival, the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams are in 11th place out of 14 schools with a combined 126 carnival points.
The Bobcats conclude their EISA season Saturday when they compete in the 15K freestyle.
