JEFFERSONVILLE, Vt. -- Bates men's alpine skiing senior captain
Kyle Kagan turned in the performance of his career to date, tying for seventh place out of 85 competitors in the giant slalom Friday at the Saint Michael's Carnival, held at Smugglers' Notch.
It's the best carnival finish by a Bates male alpine skier since
Michael Cooper '20 placed sixth in the slalom at the Bates Carnival in 2017.
Kagan (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) recorded a two-run combined time of 1:49.86, tying him with Boston College's Bode Flanigan for seventh place and earning the Bobcats 34 carnival points. Kagan also picked up 36 NCAA points for his efforts.
Fellow senior captain
Nic Hotermans (Weston, Mass.) also scored points for the Bobcats, taking 46th place with his two-run combined time of 1:54.63, enough for seven carnival points.
On the women's side, sophomore
Juliette Hoder (Stowe, Vt.) led the way for Bates in her home state, placing 35th out of 79 competitors in the GS with her two-run combined time of 1:55.91, good for 13 carnival points. First-year
Helena Jankovic (Pittsfield, Mass.) joined Hoder in scoring points for Bates, finishing 52nd in 1:59.39. Jankovic earned eight carnival points for her performance.
Combined, the Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams sit in 11th place out of 14 EISA schools with 141 points through one day at the Saint Michael's Carnival. The alpine skiing team is back in action Saturday when they compete in the slalom starting at 9:30 a.m.
