LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Eske Roennau placed 25th out of 96 competitors in the men's 7.5K classical technique race to pace the Bates Nordic skiing teams Saturday at the St. Lawrence Carnival.
Roennau (Aspen, Colo.) raced to the finish in 21:22.6, earning the Bobcats 20 carnival points and picking up six NCAA points. A pair of first-years rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats, with
Cabot Godoy (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) finishing 59th in 22:37.7 and
Duncan Whitbeck (Salt Lake City, Utah) taking 61st in 22:42.8.
First-year
Elsa Sanborn (Burlington, Vt.) led the women's team, finishing in a tie for 61st place out of 108 competitors in 26:21.8, picking up six carnival points for Bates. Fellow first-years
Greta Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn.) and
Hannah Grohman (Biddeford, Maine) rounded out the scoring in 65th and 67th respectively.
Combined, the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams scored 248 points at the St. Lawrence Carnival, good for 11th place out of 14 schools.
The Bobcats are back in action on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Saint Michael's Carnival, to be held at Sleepy Hollow in Huntington, Vt.
