WILMINGTON, N.Y. -- Senior captain
Kyle Kagan placed 24th out of 85 competitors to pace the Bates alpine skiers Thursday in the giant slalom at the St. Lawrence Carnival, held on Whiteface Mountain.
Kagan (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) recorded a two-run combined time of 2:13.44, earning 20 carnival points and seven NCAA points. His 24th place showing is Kagan's best carnival performance during his time as a Bobcat to date.
Meanwhile, senior
Marat Washburn (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and senior
Wyatt Hoffman (Old Lyme, Conn.) also scored points for the men's team on Thursday, with Washburn finishing 37th in 2:15.11 and Hoffman taking 42nd in 2:15.83.
On the women's side, senior
Jaelie Hovey (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) recorded another top-30 finish, tying for 29th out of 78 collegiate skiers with a two-run combined time of 2:20.10, good for 16.5 carnival points and two NCAA points. Senior captain
Sequoia Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) continued the strong start to the year for the Bates Steamboat Springs contingent with a 36th-place effort, notching a mark of 2:21.75. Senior captain
Kenzie Arnott (Stowe, Vt.) rounded out the scoring in 40th place with a two-run combined time of 2:23.52.
Combined, the Bates alpine skiers tallied 75.5 carnival points on Thursday. They wrap up their portion of the St. Lawrence Carnival on Friday when the Bobcats compete in the slalom starting at 9:30 a.m.
