RUMFORD, Maine -- Bates first-year
Greta Hendrickson continued her impressive debut weekend with a 20th place finish out of 103 competitors in the 9.1K freestyle Saturday at Black Mountain, as the Nordic skiing teams wrapped up the Bates Carnival.
Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn.) and the rest of the Nordic skiers competed on a modified course, racing seven 1.3K loops on day two, with Hendrickson crossing the finish line in 27:14.8. Her performance earned Bates 22 carnival points and Hendrickson picked up 11 NCAA points.
Fellow first-year
Hannah Grohman (Biddeford, Maine) recorded a time of 28:37.9 and senior captain
Eva McDonough (Woody Creek, Colo.) raced to the finish in 29:06.2, rounding out the scoring for Bates in 43rd and 52nd place respectively.
On the men's side, senior
Mathias Boudreau-Golfman (Londonderry, Vt.) led the way for the Bobcats, taking 32nd place with his time of 23:48.9., earning 19 carnival points. A pair of first-years rounded out the scoring for Bates, as
Cabot Godoy (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) and
Sage Grossi (Montpelier, Vt.) finished in 51st and 64th respectively.
Combined, the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams scored an even 400 points over the course of two days, good for sixth place out of 14 schools. It's the Bobcats' best showing at the Bates Carnival since 2013.
The Nordic skiing team is back in action this Friday and Saturday when the Bobcats compete at the St. Lawrence Carnival, being held on Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y.
