NEWRY, Maine -- Sophomore
Juliette Hoder took 14th place out of 79 skiers in the slalom on Saturday at Sunday River as the Bobcat skiing teams combined to finish sixth out of 14 schools in the final standings at the Bates Carnival.
Hoder (Stowe, Vt.) picked up where she left off in her strongest event, recording a two-run combined time of 1:48.33 to earn 27 carnival points and 18 NCAA points.
Four women's alpine skiers finished in the top 30 for the Bobcats. Senior captain
Sequoia Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) notched a two-run combined time of 1:51.19 to finish in 27th place, earning the Bobcats 19 carnival points and picking up four NCAA points. Junior
Lindsey Aten (Park City, Utah) was right behind Anstine in 28th place with her mark of 1:51.39, good for 18 carnival points and three NCAA points.
Only the top three performers from each team score carnival points, but first-year
Helena Jankovic (Pittsfield, Mass.) impressed as well, taking 30th in 1:52.13, good for one NCAA point.
On the men's side, senior captain
Nic Hotermans (Weston, Mass.) recorded a top-30 performance with his two-run combined time of 1:45.74, earning 20 carnival points and six NCAA points for his 25th-place finish. Senior
Wyatt Hoffman (Old Lyme, Conn.) and senior captain
Kyle Kagan (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) rounded out the scoring for the men's team in 34th and 38th place respectively.
Combined, the Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams scored an even 400 points over the course of two days. The sixth-place finish is the Bobcats' best at the Bates Carnival since 2013.
The alpine skiing team is back in action Thursday and Friday at the St. Lawrence Carnival, held on Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, N.Y.
