MEDFORD, Mass. -- A pair of Bates men's tennis doubles teams won their first round matches Friday at the ITA New England Championship, hosted by Tufts University.
Junior
Theo Sardain (Dedham, Mass.) and sophomore
Phillippe Kosyagin (Las Vegas, Nev.) teamed up to defeat the Endicott duo of Conrad Kadel and George Danes by a count of 8-3 in the round of 64. Then they took on the fifth-seeded team of JT Bilski and Harry Collomb from Wesleyan in the round of 32, falling just short in an 8-7 (2) loss.
The first-year duo of
Eric Diop (Roslindale, Mass.) and
Tylan Ozkuzey (Montclair, N.J.) also won their round of 64 match, defeating the Colby Sawyer team of Zsombor Homonnay and Aiden Jensen by a score of 8-6. Diop and Ozkuzey fell in the round of 32 to the eighth-seeded Tufts team of Alex Ganchev and Sacha Maes.
Bates did not have as much luck in singles play, although senior
Ben Adey (Falmouth, Maine) did win his round of 64 match in the "B" singles draw, defeating Springfield College's Marc Villanueva Abad by a count of 8-6 before falling in the round of 32 to Wesleyan's Brett Keeling, 8-3.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13 when they host the Wallach Invitational.
