PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- No. 26 Bates College came through with a clutch win Saturday on day two of the 2024 National Collegiate Men's Team Squash Championships as the Bobcats defeated No. 27 Denison University, 7-2, to advance to Sunday's consolation round final.
Bates, serving as the No. 6 seed in the Summers Cup division of the event, will now take on No. 8 seeded and No. 28 ranked Hamilton Sunday at noon as the Continentals defeated No. 5 seeded and No. 25 ranked Dickinson College, 5-4, in the day's other consolation semifinal.
The Bobcats' victory snaps a five-match losing streak for the garnet and white.
Positions three through nine were all triumphant for Bates (4-14).
Nicolai Boe (11-7, 11-5, 11-5 vs. Charlie Fenwick),
Ashton Monteiro (12-10, 11-5, 11-8 vs. Lucas Pillar),
Harris Ramlee (11-6, 11-8, 11-6 vs. Ross Falcon), and
Maks Celm (11-9, 11-7, 11-3 vs. Chase Lenfest) posted perfect 3-0 decisions at positions 3-6, respectively.
Facing an initial 1-0 deficit,
Max Good rallied to secure the next three games to humble Jackson Bragman, 3-1 (4-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-5), at No. 7.
Tad Koenigsbauer also authored a 3-1 win as the senior eliminated Rayan Dar by scores of 11-3, 11-2, 8-11, 11-4 at No. 8.
In the match of the day, Bates'
Philip Han, trailing 2-0 at position No. 9, rallied to stun Denison first-year, Jack Jones, in five games (6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-9).
The Big Red, losers of four-straight, fall to an even 10-10 with the setback.
