LEWISTON, Maine -- In a back-and-forth competition between a pair of nationally-ranked foes, it would be #17 Hobart College coming away with the win as the visiting Statesmen defeated #25 Bates College, 5-4, Tuesday in the Bates Squash Center.
Hobart improves to 2-5 with the victory. The Bobcats at 0-4 continue to chase their first victory of the 2023-24 campaign.
Bates'
Ashton Monteiro (No. 4),
Maks Clem (No. 6), and
Max Good (No. 7) each triumphed via shutout in their respective matches. For Clem, the win marked the first of the first-year's collegiate career.
Dropping the first game of his match by an 11-2 score,
Tad Koenigsbauer clawed all the way back with wins of 11-4, 11-1, and 13-11 to stun Hobart's Ángel Ripollés Medina at the No. 8 position.
Both
Alec Spiro (No. 1) and
Harris Ramlee (No. 5) went the the distance in their respective showings, ultimately finding themselves on the wrong end of 3-2 decisions.
The Bobcats now prepare to trek to #11 Williams College this Friday in Williamstown, Mass. for a 6:00 p.m. showdown.
