CLINTON, N.Y. -- No. 25 Bates College snapped a season-opening six-match slide as the Bobcats bested No. 27 Hamilton, 5-4, Sunday on the road in men's squash action.
The match of the afternoon came in the No. 4 slot as
Ashton Montiero defeated Hamilton's Toney Suratt, 3-2, in comeback fashion. Trailing two-games-to-one, the Bates sophomore fired off wins of 11-6 and 11-9 in games four and five, respectively, to earn the triumph.
Alec Spiro, playing at No. 1, also enjoyed a come-from-behind win for the garnet and white. The junior captain, after dropping the first game of his match (7-11) vs. Hamilton's William Rice, surged ahead with wins of 11-6, 11-5, and 11-7 for the win.
Max Good also posted a 3-1 victory, besting Waleed Nisar by scores of 13-11, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10 in the No. 6 position.
The Bobcats (1-6) return home to host St. Lawrence University Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the Bates Squash Center.
