BANGOR, Maine -- Sophomore
Elizabeth Holcombe won the individual title, the Bobcats swept the top three places, and the No. 20 nationally ranked Bates women's cross country team rolled to a seventh consecutive Maine State Meet title Saturday at Saxl Park.
Holcombe (San Francisco, Calif.) paced a pack of Bobcats as Bates dominated the meet, crossing the finish line of the 6K race in 22:21.2. Senior
Chrissy Aman (Hanover, N.H.) and senior captain
Isabel May (Erving, Mass.) finished in second and third place respectively, with Aman crossing the finish line in 22:34.6 and May recording a time of 22:40.8.
The Bobcats put seven runners in the top 10 of the race on their way to the title, which featured 10 teams and 107 individuals competing.
Runners who finished in the top seven earned All-State honors, and Bates senior captain
Kahryn Cullenberg (Farmington, Maine) and junior
Phoebe Pohl (Wayland, Mass.) joined Holcombe, Aman, and May in the top seven, giving Bates five All-State performers. Cullenberg placed sixth in 22:50.2 and Pohl placed seventh in 22:54.
Junior
Isabelle Demeritt (Acton, Mass.) and senior
Rebecca Anderson (Boone, N.C.) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats in eighth and ninth place respectively. Demeritt crossed the finish line in 23:02.8 and Anderson recorded a time of 23:03.0.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they compete in the Connecticut College Invitational.
