'Cats Swept at Trinity on Final Regular-Season Road Trip ... Sets Up Significant Sunday Finale vs. Williams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HARTFORD, Conn. -- Seeking a berth in the NESCAC postseason for the first time since 2019, Bates College finds itself in quite a pinch as the Bobcats dropped a pair of road contests Saturday at Trinity College, putting the garnet and white in a tie with the Bantams for the eighth-and-final playoff spot.

GAME ONE (Trinity 4, Bobcats 2)

A pair of Trinity tallies in both the fourth and fifth frames provided the Bantams a 4-1 lead after five innings, an advantage the home team would not relinquish. The big blows for the victors came courtesy of an RBI single by 1B Kennedy Rogers in the fourth and a two-run double from 3B Gianna Tito in the fifth.

3B Kama Boswell's run-inducing groundout cut Bates' deficit to 2-1 in the top of the fifth while a Trinity fielding blunder permitted the Bobcats' second score.

Tiffany Stowers limited the Bates' bats to only two hits in the contest as the junior hurler permitted one earned run and three free passes and a hit-by-pitch (2 K) in the complete-game win for the Bantams.

Madison Hollis (6-7) went the distance for the Bobcats (6.0 IP, 4 R 6 H, 2 K), allowing no earned runs in the effort.

GAME TWO (Trinity 5, Bobcats 4)

A pair of Bobcat leads could not be maintained by Bates as Trinity came back on two separate occasions before taking the lead for good with two runs in the sixth as the Bantams completed the NESCAC sweep with a 5-4 win in Saturday's nightcap.

DP Katharine Merisotis connected for a two-run single in the top of the first to give the Bobcats an initial 2-0 advantage. The lead held until the home half of the fourth when Kennedy Rogers rocked a two-run homer to knot the score at 2-all.

Merisotis, who finished the contest with a 2-for-4 showing and a trio of ribbies, put the garnet and white back ahead with a run-scoring double in the fifth.

A Bates fielding miscue permitted the tying run to score in the bottom of the fifth before C Alyssa Gazivoda brought in what would be the game-winner with her sixth-inning double.

Stowers (10-9), after earning the pitching victory in game one, came out of the Trinity bullpen (2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K) to collect her second triumph of the afternoon. Delaney Rankin (5-5) went all six frames for Bates (7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, BB, 2 K).

The Bobcats (14-15-1, 6-10 NESCAC) return home to host Williams in a make-up twin-bill made necessary by a rainout earlier in the campaign. First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. on Lafayette Street Field.
