HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates softball junior captain catcher
Isabel Bettencourt and senior captain pitcher
Delaney Rankin were both named second team All-NESCAC on Wednesday, as announced by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
It's the second All-NESCAC selection of both players' careers.
Bettencourt (Peabody, Mass.) started all 36 games and led the team in both home runs (6) and RBIs (17) this season. She slugged .425 while catching seven runners trying to steal. Some of her top performances included going 3-3 with a home run and three RBIs in a win over Amherst, going 2-3 with a double and an RBI against Bowdoin, and homering in four out of five games on her way to NESCAC Player of the Week honors in April.
Rankin (Harrison, Maine) saw her senior season cut short due to injury, but she still impressed in the circle. The right-hander posted a 2.13 ERA in 46 innings pitched, making 10 appearances and six starts. She struck out 36 batters while holding opponents to a career-low .209 batting average. Rankin tossed four complete games, earned four wins, and also recorded a save. She only walked six batters all season.
The Bobcats finished the season with 17 wins, the third-most in program history.
