LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates softball senior captain pitcher
Delaney Rankin and sophomore infielder
Maddy Miller are second team All-State selections, as announced Tuesday by the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association.
Rankin (Harrison, Maine) adds to her post-season accolades, having already earned second team All-NESCAC recognition. She posted a 2.13 ERA in 46 innings pitched, making 10 appearances and six starts. She struck out 36 batters while holding opponents to a career-low .209 batting average. Rankin tossed four complete games, earned four wins, and also recorded a save. She only walked six batters all season. Rankin saw her senior year cut short due to injury but still impressed in the circle, ranking third in the NESCAC in ERA and Opposing Batting Average.
Miller (Norway, Maine) receives well-deserved recognition for her break-out campaign. She led the Bobcats and ranked ninth in the NESCAC with a 1.003 OPS. She also paced Bates with a .363 batting average while playing an excellent second base, making just two errors all season. Miller raised her batting average by more than 200 points from her first year of college softball.
The Bobcats had a strong season overall, winning 17 games overall and going 12-4 at home. The 17 wins are the third-most in one season in program history.
