GRANVILLE, Mass. -- Bates Nordic skiing sophomore
Mathias Boudreau-Golfman turned in the performance of his young career on Friday, placing 10th out of 88 competitors in the men's 10K classical technique race at the Williams Carnival, held at Prospect Mountain.
Boudreau-Golfman (Londonderry, Vt.) crossed the finish line in 32:14.0 to pace the Bobcats, earning 30 carnival points and 26 NCAA points. He finished less than a minute out of the top five on the day, his 10th place finish surpassing his previous best showing on the collegiate circuit of 15th place, which he recorded in the 7.5K freestyle at the Bates Carnival earlier this season.
The Bates men had a strong day overall, with three top-30 performances. Junior
Cal Schrupp (Gilford, N.H.) finished in 23rd place with a time of 33:25.6, enough for 21 carnival points and nine NCAA points. Senior captain
Zander Martin (York, Maine) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats in 29th, crossing the finish line in 33:37.2, enough for 17 carnival points and three NCAA points.
On the women's side, junior captain
Olivia Cuneo (St. George, Vt.) once again led the way for the Bobcats, finishing in 23rd place out of 83 competitors with a time of 39:57.5, enough for 22 carnival points and eight NCAA points. Senior
Rebecca Feist (Concord, Mass.) and sophomore
Katie Watt (Concord, N.H.) rounded out the scoring for Bates in 46th and 51st place respectively.
The Nordic and alpine skiing teams combined for 175 carnival points on Friday, good for 10th place out of the 14 EISA schools. The Bobcats are just three points behind host Williams with one day remaining. The Nordic teams are back in action Saturday morning with the men competing in the 10K freestyle and the women racing in the 5K freestyle.
