HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates women's tennis team swept doubles play and never looked back in an 8-1 victory over NESCAC opponent Trinity Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats (4-5, 2-2 NESCAC) got things going against the Bantams (5-4, 0-3 NESCAC) in doubles play, with first-year
Drew Williams (Guilford, Conn.) teaming up with fellow first-year
Olivia Gidlow (Cleveland, Ohio) to defeat Kennedy White and Ella Baker at No. 3 by a count of 8-3.
Senior captain
Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore
Ally Friedman (East Hampton, N.Y.) took care of business at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-6 over Trinity's Isabella Hartman and Angelina Shyltsyna. Junior
Joanna Atwater (Short Hills, N.J.) and sophomore
Salma Alsikafi (Lake Bluff, Ill.) turned in a dominating performance at No. 2, winning 8-1 over Josephine Kimball and Ashley Walker.
Rozin won with ease at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1 over Hartman. Meanwhile, Atwater won an epic match, defeating Kimball in three sets by a count of 7-6 (11-9), 5-7, 10-8. With Williams winning 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles over White, Bates had the match clinched.
To save time, the remaining singles matches were played with doubles scoring.
Junior
Alexandra D'Aquino (Weston, Conn.) won at No. 4 singles over Baker by a count of 8-6 and junior
Laura Littlefield (Ellicott City, Md.) defeated Walker 8-7 (7-1) at No. 5 singles.
The Bobcats are back in action next Sunday at Wesleyan, with the match getting underway at 10am.
