LEWISTON, Maine — Sophomore Avni Bakre went a perfect 6-0 and first-year June Kim swept all three of her singles matches to highlight a strong weekend for the Bobcats at the Bates Hidden Duals Saturday and Sunday.

The Bobcats hosted Colby, Trinity and Vassar for the two-day event, with matches contested at the Wallach Tennis Center and inside Merrill Gymnasium. Bates collected 22 victories over the six sessions, including 12 in singles and 10 in doubles.

Bakre was unbeaten in three singles and three doubles matches, teaming with three different lineups over the course of the weekend. She opened with a 6-3, 6-2 singles victory over Trinity's Phebe Fisher on Saturday before defeating Vassar's Gwen Gray 6-4, 6-2 later in the day. Bakre completed her singles sweep Sunday by defeating Gray again, rallying for a 6-3, 2-6, 10-3 victory.

In doubles, Bakre and Lia Swire (So.) defeated Colby's Tina Barrow and Kendell Skulley 6-2 in Saturday's opening session. She then teamed with Ava Steinberger (Sr.) for a 6-0 victory over Trinity's Fisher and Jahnavi Vaghasia before reuniting with Swire Sunday to defeat Vassar's Riley Mueller and Sara Lippin, 6-3.

Kim also enjoyed a standout weekend, finishing 5-1 overall and 3-0 in singles. She opened with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Trinity's Naisha Rathi and followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Vassar's Elliotte Banziger. Kim closed her weekend Sunday with her most dramatic victory, rallying past Colby's Ella Werz 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.

Kim also teamed with fellow first-year Emma Schillinger for a pair of doubles victories. The duo defeated Trinity's Ava Terefe and Avery Morris 6-1 on Saturday before earning a 6-4 win over Vassar's Sisi Lee and Ona Pingitore Espelt on Sunday.

Bates opened the weekend by winning three of its five doubles matches. In addition to Bakre and Swire's victory, Jasleen Chohan (Fy.) and Steinberger defeated Vassar's Liya Pomfret and Gwen Gray 6-2, while Elise Hepburn (Sr.) and Francesca Rodriguez (Fy.) rolled to a 6-1 victory over Trinity's Fisher and Vaghasia.

The Bobcats then won five of eight singles matches against Trinity in their first singles session. Senior Iris Westmoreland defeated Hellena Trojer 6-2, 6-3; Kim topped Rathi; Schillinger defeated Emilia Romano 6-4, 6-3; Chohan handled Vaghasia 6-2, 6-2; and Bakre defeated Fisher.

Bates added three doubles victories in Saturday's second session. Briana Bartels (Fy.) and Westmoreland defeated Rathi and Romano 6-4, Kim and Schillinger cruised to their 6-1 win, and Steinberger and Bakre blanked Fisher and Vaghasia 6-0.

Against Vassar in Saturday's second singles session, Kim, Rodriguez and Bakre picked up victories for the Bobcats, and Rodriguez defeated Pomfret 6-4, 7-5. 

Bates began Sunday by sweeping all four of its doubles matches against Vassar. Bartels and Westmoreland won 6-2, Kim and Schillinger prevailed 6-4, Swire and Bakre earned a 6-3 victory, and Steinberger and Rodriguez completed the sweep with a 6-4 win.

Kim, Hepburn, Hannah Farber (So.) and Bakre then earned singles victories in Sunday's final session. Hepburn defeated Trinity's Vaghasia 6-2, 6-2, while Farber topped Fisher 6-2, 7-5. Kim and Bakre both prevailed in match tiebreaks to complete their unbeaten singles weekends.

Steinberger also finished the Hidden Duals unbeaten, going 3-0 in doubles with three different partners. Bates finished the weekend with a 10-5 mark in doubles competition.

The Bobcats close out its fall slate with an appearance in the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Bowdoin in two weeks (Oct. 3-4).
