JACKSON, N.H. -- The Bates Nordic skiing teams competed in freestyle races Friday on day one of the UNH Carnival, which doubles as the NCAA East Regionals.
Junior
Zander Martin (York, Maine) took 33rd out of 63 competitors to pace the men's team in the 20K freestyle mass start race. He crossed the finish line in 58:02.4 and earned 17 carnival points. First-year
Mathias Boudreau-Golfman (Londonderry, Vt.) followed close behind in 37th place with a time of 58:42.6, good for 14 carnival points. Senior
Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) rounded out the scoring in 39th place with a time of 59:26.3, earning 13 carnival points.
On the women's side, sophomore
Olivia Cuneo (St. George, Vt.) paced the Bobcats in the 15K freestyle mass start, racing to the finish in 48:58.4. She took 37th place out of 64 competitors to earn 14 carnival points. Senior captain
Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine) finished with a nearly identical time as Cuneo, crossing the line in 48:58.8 and earning 13 carnival points. First-year
Nina Chosy (Madison, Wis.) rounded out the scoring in 42nd place with a time of 49:20.6, good for 11 carnival points.
Combined the Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams scored 172 points on Friday, putting them in 9th place out of 17 schools at the East Regionals with one day remaining.
The Nordic skiing teams return to Jackson Ski Touring Center Saturday at 9:30am for the classical technique races.
