RIPTON, Vt. -- For the second straight day, three Bates Nordic skiers finished in the top 30 at the Middlebury Carnival, this time in the freestyle races.
Senior captain
Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine) led all Bobcats with a 23rd place finish out of 73 competitors in the 15K freestyle race, recording a time of 49:13.5. She earned 23 carnival points and eight NCAA points. Sophomore
Olivia Cuneo (St. George, Vt.) continued her strong season with a 30th place showing, finishing the race in 50:36.5 and earning 17 carnival points along with one NCAA point. First-year
Nina Chosy (Madison, Wis.) rounded out the scoring for Bates in 45th place with a time of 52:20.9, earning 10 carnival points.
On the men's side, junior
Zander Martin (York, Maine) took 29th out of 78 competitors in the 20K freestyle race with a time of 56:42.9, good for 17 carnival points and three NCAA points. Senior
Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) recorded a time of 57:24.7, good for 38th place and 13 carnival points. Sophomore
Cal Schrupp (Gilford, N.H.) rounded out the scoring in 40th place with a time of 57:25.3, earning 12 carnival points.
The Bates Nordic and alpine skiing teams combined for 370 points, good for eighth out of 14 schools and only eight points out of seventh place.
Bates returns to action next Friday and Saturday when the Bobcats travel to the UNH Carnival.
