WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates Nordic teams competed in the Maine state intercollegiate Nordic ski championship, better known as the Chummy Broomhall Cup, Sunday at Quarry Road, with the men taking first place thanks to multiple All-State performers.
Sophomore
Cal Schrupp (Gilford, N.H.) led the way, earning a spot on the podium with a second-place finish out of 30 competitors in the men's race, finishing in 35:44.0. Senior
Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) also earned All-State honors by placing fourth in 36:24.1. First-year
Mathias Boudreau-Golfman (Londonderry, Vt.) rounded out the scoring and earned All-State honors in 36:25.6, taking fifth right behind Raff.
The top three finishers counted toward the team scoring, with the low score winning. Schrupp, Raff and Boudreau-Golfman combined for 11 points, finishing ahead of both Colby (18) and Bowdoin (22). Junior
Zander Martin (York, Maine) also placed in the top 10 in 36:26.3, enough for sixth place and a fourth All-State performance (top-10) for the Bates men.
On the women's side, senior captain
Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine) led the way, taking sixth out of 22 skiers in 42:40.4. First-year
Eva McDonough (Aspen, Colo.) also earned All-State honors with a ninth-place showing, racing to the finish in 44:37.1.
Colby took home the Cup overall, with Bates finishing a close third behind runner-up Bowdoin.
