GORHAM, Maine and BOSTON -- The Bates men's track and field team sent athletes to the USM Invitational and the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Sunday, getting ready for the upcoming Maine State Meet.
USM Invitational Highlights
- Senior John Everett (Winchester, Mass.) won the weight throw for the third straight meet, with a top throw of 54-06.75.
- Junior Liam Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the shot put with a personal record throw of 49-01.00, with Everett placing second at 45-07.25. Byrne placed second in the weight throw to Everett with a top heave of 51-09.25.
- Junior Wyatt Bates (Yarmouth, Maine) set personal records in three different events, taking second in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.47 seconds. He finished third in the high jump at 6-00.75 and ran the 200 meters in 25.54.Â
- Senior Garrett Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) won the 400 meter dash in 53.30.
- First-year Calvin Capelle (Laguna Beach, Calif.) won the 1000 meter run in 2:37.72 and sophomore Jason Nahigian (Needham, Mass.) took second in 2:39.29.
John Thomas Terrier Classic Highlights
- Sophomore Ned Farrington (Cohasset, Mass.) ran the mile in 4:13.38.
- Junior Ryan Smith (Westport, Conn.) ran the 5K in a personal best time of 14:48.51.
- First-year Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.) cut four seconds of his 800 meter time, running it in a season-best 1:56.60.
- Junior Colby Stakun-Pickering (Wellesley, Mass.) ran a personal best 200 meter dash, finishing in 22.86.Â
- First-year Nicholas Brown (Hopkinton, Mass.) ran the 3,000 meters in 8:52.19 and senior Max Bartley (Presque Isle, Maine) recorded a personal best time of 9:05.92 in the event.Â
The Bobcats head to the Maine State meet in Waterville this Saturday, looking to win their third straight indoor state title, after tying for the crown the last time the meet was held, in 2020.
