HUNTINGTON, Vt. -- Junior
Zander Martin recorded a top-30 finish in the men's 10K freestyle, highlighting the first day of the Saint Michael's Carnival for the Bates Nordic skiing team.
Martin (York, Maine) finished 26th out of 91 men with a time of 25:37.6, good for 20 carnival points and seven NCAA points. Sophomore
Cal Schrupp (Gilford, N.H.) also turned in a strong performance, placing 36th with a time of 25:57.2. He earned 14 carnival points for his efforts. Senior
Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) rounded out the scoring for Bates in 45th place, earning 10 carnival points with his time of 26:15.8.
On the women's side, senior captain
Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine) paced the Bobcats for a second straight race, finishing 39th out of 87 competitors in 31:05.7, earning 16 carnival points. Sophomore
Olivia Cuneo (St. George, Vt.) returned to her home state and earned 10 carnival points by placing 48th in 31:41.3. First-year
Katie Watt (Concord, N.H.) rounded out the scoring with nine carnival points, finishing 54th with a time of 32:07.1.

Nina Chosy (Madison, Wis.) wasn't on the carnival team for this race, but if she had been, she would have scored points, placing 51st in 31:50.6.
The Bates Nordic and alpine teams combined for 10th place out of 14 schools after day one of the Saint Michael's carnival with 242 points between the two teams. The Nordic teams return to action Saturday at Saint Michael's in the 5K classical technique race.
