Rex tosses new personal record hammer throw at home vs. Bowdoin, Colby

LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior All-American John Rex moved further up the storied ranks of Bates hammer throwers on Saturday, launching a personal-record throw of 191 feet and 6 inches to highlight Saturday's tri-meet with Bowdoin and Colby for the Bates men's track and field team.

Field events and the 10,000 meters took place at Bates, with track events taking place simultaneously at Bowdoin.

Competing on his home throwing circle, Rex (Andover, Mass.) moved up from 10th to ninth place, past Peter Goodrich '89, on Bates' All-American-studded all-time top 10 performance list in the event. Rex notched the new personal record on his second attempt of the day, and was eight centimeters shy of it on his third attempt (58.30 meters). His mark would put him in fourth place in this season's Division III national rankings at the start of the day.

Rex also won the shot put (46'2.75"), and was third in the discus (131'7").
