LAKE PLACID, N.Y.-- The Bates Nordic ski teams competed in 3x5k skate relays Saturday at the Williams Carnival at Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, New York, with the Bobcat women placing ninth and men taking 11th out of 15 teams.
With each team fielding two relay squads, the women were led by senior Kaelyn Woods (New Gloucester, Maine), junior Maya Seckinger (Winthrop, Wash.) and junior Zoe McKinney (North Conway, N.H.) who came in 13th place out of 29 squads with a time of 43:45.6. Sophomore Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine), senior Annie Blakslee (Edwards, Colo.) and first-year Emma Blakslee (Edwards, Colo.) came in 25th place in 47:53.1.
On the men's side, the trio of junior Tucker Barber (Wilton, Maine), sophomore Henry Raff (Hailey Idaho), and first-year Zander Martin (York, Maine) finished 20th out of 27 groups in 38:45.2. Junior Carter Ros (Hailey, Idaho), first-year Cal Schrupp (Gilford, N.H.) and sophomore Nathaniel Badger (Edwards, Colo.) placed 23rd in 39:48.6.
Bates' combined Nordic and alpine teams finished in ninth place among 15 teams with 350 carnival points.
The Bates Nordic teams next compete in the Chummy Broomhall Cup this Saturday, Feb. 22 at Black Mountain in Rumbord, Maine. The Bobcats will compete in the Middlebury Carnival and NCAA East Regionals at the Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton, Vt., on Feb. 28-29.
