WATERVILLE, Maine -- Kaelyn Woods and Maya Seckinger both finished among the top 20 skiers in the women's 10-kilometer classical technique race, highlighting the second day of the Colby Carnival for the Bates Nordic ski teams on Saturday.
Woods (New Gloucester, Maine) matched her season-best carnival finish by placing 14th out of 76 women with a time of 35:53.0. The senior captain also placed 14th in the women's 5K freestyle race on Friday.
Seckinger (Winthrop, Wash.), a junior, finished a career-high 18th place in a time of 36:09.6. Sophomore Olivia Skillings (Portland, Maine) completed the women's team scoring in 52nd place (39:11.7), as the Bates women scored the sixth most points in the event.
First-year Cal Schrupp (Gilford, N.H.) led the Bates men's Nordic team, placing 42nd out of 76 competitors in the men's 15K classic with a time of 49:41.4. Junior captain Carter Ros (Hailey, Idaho) came right behind in 43rd place (49:43.4) and junior Tucker Barber (Wilton, Maine) placed 45th (49:50.0) to edge sophomore Henry Raff (Hailey, Idaho) (50:01.7) by one place.
Bates' Nordic and alpine ski teams combined to score 437 team carnival points, seventh-most among 15 teams at the Colby Carnival.
Bates hosts the Bates Carnival next weekend, Feb. 7-8, with Nordic racing taking place at Black Mountain in Rumford, Maine. Alpine races take place at Sunday River in Newry, Maine.
