CRAFTSBURY, Vt. -- Senior captain Kaelyn Woods and first-year Cal Schrupp paced the women's and men's Nordic ski teams respectively Friday in the classic sprint races at the UVM Carnival.
Woods (New Gloucester, Maine) netted another top-30 finish, taking 27th among 84 collegiate skiers with a time of 4:15.39, good for 23 carnival points. Junior Maya Seckinger (Winthrop, Wash.) earned 15 carnival points by placing 40th with a time of 4:21.13. And first-year Sarah Gallagher (Dummerston, Vt.) rounded out the scoring in 61st place, finishing in 4:35.25 and earning 10 carnival points.
On the men's side, Schrupp (Gilford, N.H.) continued his strong rookie season by placing 34th out of 84 collegiate skiers, racing to the finish in 3:38.28. Schrupp earned 12 carnival points for his efforts. Junior Tucker Barber (Wilton, Maine) placed 56th with a time of 3:46.74 and first-year Zander Martin (York, Maine) rounded out the scoring in 60th place in 3:47.52.
The Nordic teams combined with the alpine skiing teams to finish tied with Williams for sixth out of 15 schools with 200 carnival points on day one of the UVM Carnival.
Bates Nordic competes in the freestyle races on Saturday to wrap up the second carnival of the year.
