LEWISTON, Maine -- Playing in their first match since Dec. 2, the No. 18 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team handed No. 21 Wesleyan University an 8-1 defeat in a NESCAC match played Tuesday night at the Bates Squash Center, in the final home match for the Bobcats of the season.
Playing before the home crowd for the last time on Senior Night were seniors Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czechia), Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana), Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) and Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.), and all four won in straight sets. Alexova defeated Ananya Vir 13-11, 11-2, 11-6 at the No. 2 position, Arjoon defeated Nina Premutico 11-3, 11-6, 11-2 at No. 3, Brooks posted an 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 sweep over Alexandra Imperiale at the sixth spot, and Bull beat Alessandra Lempietti 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 at No. 7.
Junior Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary), sophomore Katie Manternach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and first-year Natalie Bachman (New Canaan, Conn.) also won in three sets for the Bobcats, at the first, fourth and eighth positions, respectively. First-year Emma Galambos (Baltimore, Md.) outlasted Josephine Russ in five sets.
Wesleyan (3-5) gained its lone point at the ninth position, with Emma Smith earning the victory. The Cardinals play at Bowdoin Wednesday at 11:30am.
Bates (3-3) next plays at rival Williams Saturday at 2pm., then at rival Middlebury Sunday at 11am.
