STOWE, Vt. -- Senior Sadie James placed ninth out of 90 collegiate skiers in the 10K Classical Technique race Saturday afternoon to lead Bates women's Nordic skiing to a fifth place finish out of 13 teams at the UVM Carnival.
James (Avon, Maine) finished the race in 35:08.7, earning 31 carnival points for the Bobcats and picking up 29 NCAA points as well.
The Bates women had three skiers, including James, finish in the top 25 on Saturday.
First-year Kaelyn Woods (New Gloucester, Maine) finished up a very strong carnival weekend by finishing in 21st place with a time of 36:11.9, good for 23 carnival points and 10 NCAA points.
Senior Laurel Fiddler (Crowley Lake, Calif.) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats, finishing in a tie for 24th place with a time of 36:20.0, good for 20 carnival points and seven NCAA points.
The men's Nordic team didn't pick up any NCAA points but senior co-captain Max Millslagle (Bend, Ore.) led the Bobcats with a 36th place finish out of 84 collegiate skiers, earning Bates 15 carnival points.
First-year Leo Lukens (Bend, Ore.) finished in the scoring for Bates as well, his time of 32:12.3 was good for a tie for 43rd place and 13 carnival points.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bobcats on Saturday was first-year Graham Houtsma (Aspen, Colo.), he finished up a great carnival weekend with a 46th place finish, good for 12 carnival points.
The Nordic skiing teams combined with the alpine skiing teams to score a total of 390 carnival points, good for eighth out of 16 teams at the UVM Carnival.
The Nordic skiing teams compete again Feb. 10-11 at the Dartmouth Carnival.
