CRAFTSBURY COMMON, Vt. -- The Bates women's Nordic skiing relay team of senior Laurel Fiddler, senior captain Halie Lange and senior Sadie James finished sixth out of 11 schools and earned 68 carnival points in the 3x5-kilometer relay Friday at the Dartmouth Carnival.

Each school entered more than one team in the relay race, but only the top score from each school earned carnival points. Fiddler (Crowley Lake, Calif.), Lange (Brattleboro, Vt.) and James (Avon, Maine) were the Bobcats' top finishers, coming in 8th place out of 28 relay teams from 11 schools.

The team finished with a time of 44:12.6 and Fiddler had the fastest split of the day for Bates, finishing her leg of the race in 14:20.2, the 10th fastest split out of the 84 total women's Nordic racers at the carnival.

In the men's race, senior co-captain Max Millslagle (Bend, Ore.), junior Parker McDonald (Wolcott, Colo.) and first-year Forrest Hamilton (Shelburne, Vt.) combined to finish 17th out of 29 relay teams with a time of 39:13.3, good for 39 carnival points.

McDonald turned in the fastest split for the Bobcats, finishing his leg in 12:36.6, 10th fastest out of 87 male Nordic skiers.

The Nordic skiing teams combined with the alpine skiing teams for 182 carnival points on day one at Dartmouth, good for eighth out of 14 teams.
