LEWISTON, Maine -- The number 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team swept seven matches on their way to an 8-1 victory over No. 22 Wellesley Saturday afternoon at the Bates College Squash Center.
Bates (11-3) won at the No. 1 through 8 positions against the Blue (4-6) in the penultimate regular season match of the season for the Bobcats.
Playing at the No. 8 position for the first time in her career, first-year Nubia Beasley-Bartee (Chicago, Ill.) prevailed 3-1 (7-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8) over the Blue's Lumi Kinjo.
Fellow first-year Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) continued her outstanding season with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-2, 11-3) win over Meera Nayar at the No. 1 position.
A trio of sophomores emerged victorious on Saturday as well. Sophomores Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) and Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) prevailed at the No. 2 and 3 positions respectively.
Alexova defeated Eva Mullarkey 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-5) and Arjoon knocked off Haley Connor 3-0 (11-6, 11-0, 11-3).
Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) continued her breakthrough sophomore season with a 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-5) win over Meredith Curry at the No. 7 position.
Blair Weintraub (New York, N.Y.), the lone junior on the squad, won at the No. 6 position by a count of 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-4) over Eunbie Coe.
Last but not least, senior co-captains Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) and Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) won at the No. 4 and 5 positions.
Dunn defeated Rhea Advani 3-0 (13-11, 11-6, 11-6) at No. 4 and Cabot dispatched Ruby Feng 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-3) at the No. 5 position.
The Bobcats welcome Tufts to town on Sunday for their final regular season match of the year. The action gets started at 6:00 p.m.
