No. 16 women's squash sweeps No. 23 Hamilton on Senior Day

LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior co-captains Emma Dunn and Charlotte Cabot helped lead the number 16 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team to a convincing 9-0 win over No. 23 Hamilton on Senior Day Saturday at the Bates College Squash Center.

The Bobcat women (7-3) did not drop a single game to the Continentals (2-7).

Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) defeated Alex Regan 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-8) at the No. 5 position and Cabot (Dover, Mass.) knocked off Katherine Bauer 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-3) at the No. 6 position.

The young Bobcats only had one other upper classmen playing on Saturday. Junior Blair Weintraub (New York, N.Y.) emerged victorious at the No. 8 position, defeating Natalie Burkardt 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-4).

The future of the Bates program shined with first-year Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) playing at the No. 1 position for the first time, winning 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-3) over Lillie Simourian. First-year Eliza Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) also won, defeating Perry Von Stade 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-3) at the No. 4 position.

Four sophomores played on Saturday and won as well. Sophomores Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) and Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) won 3-0 at the No. 2 and 3 positions respectively. Alexova defeated Charlotte Zonis 11-6, 11-6, 11-2 and Arjoon topped Megan Grip 11-3, 11-6, 11-5.

Fellow sophomores Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) and Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) got back on the winning track with wins at the No. 7 and 9 positions. Bull swept Molly Pivorotto 3-0 (11-8, 11-2, 11-2) and Brooks swept Jean Beecher 3-0 (11-7, 11-1, 11-2).

The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, January 21 when they take on number 13 nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall at Amherst College at 9:00 a.m.
