HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 19 Bates women's squash team finished the NESCAC Championships with a 3-1 record after they beat No. 17 Bowdoin 6-3 on Sunday in the 5th place game.
The victory avenged a 5-4 loss the Bobcats suffered at the hands of the Polar Bears during the regular season.Â
The difference this time around was the Bobcats having two captains in action they were missing the first time the teams played back in December.
Junior co-captains Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) and Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) emerged victorious at the No. 4 and 6 positions respectively. Dunn defeated Tully Ross 3-1 (13-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-9) and Cabot knocked off Mariela Mendoza in three sets (11-5, 11-0, 11-3).
Senior co-captain Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) took care of business as well at the No. 5 position. She defeated Chloe Polikoff in straight sets 3-0 (13-11, 11-8, 11-5)Â
Once again first-year Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) impressed at the No. 1 position. She swept Sarah Nelson 3-0 (11-1, 11-4, 11-8) and finished the NESCAC Championships undefeated at 4-0.Â
The Bobcats showed off their depth with Molly Brooks '19 (Charlottesville, Va.) defeating Zoe Wood at the No. 7 position 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-4) and Blair Weintraub '18 (New York, N.Y.) sweeping Natalie LaPlant at the No. 9 position 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-3).
Next up for the women's squash team is the Rochester Invitational, which gets started Saturday, February 13 at 10:00 a.m.
