CRAFTSBURY, Vt. -- Junior Sadie James and sophomore Parker McDonald led the Bates women's and men's Nordic ski teams in their respective 10K classical technique races Sunday as the UVM Carnival concluded.
James (Avon, Maine) finished 23rd out of 73 collegians in the women's 10K classical race, covering the Craftsbury Outdoor Center course in 30:09.3. Junior Laurel Fiddler (Crowley Lake, Calif.) came in 29th in 30:28.2 and sophomore Halie Lange (Brattleboro, Vt.) placed 36th (30:50.3) to complete Bates' women's team scoring.
On the men's side, McDonald (Wolcott, Colo.) placed 31st out of 72 collegians in 26:27.5 to lead Bates in the men's 10K classical. Junior Nathan Moreau (Falmouth, Maine) was 35th (26:46.1) and senior Corky Harrer (Minneapolis, Minn.) was 37th (26:50.7). The Bates men placed eighth as a unit in the event, while the Bates women placed seventh.
Bates' Nordic and alpine teams combined for 478 carnival points, placing seventh out of 16 teams. The carnival's alpine races took place last weekend. Williams finished sixth with 500 points and St. Michael's was eighth with 385.
Bates returns to Craftsbury for next weekend's Dartmouth Carnival this Friday and Saturday.
