STOWE, Vt. -- The Nordic skiing portion of the UVM Carnival began Saturday, with the Bates women scoring the fifth-most points and the men scoring the seventh-most points in their respective freestyle races at Craftsbury Outdoor Center.
Senior Britta Clark (Ripton, Vt.) led Bates in the women's 5K freestyle race with a time of 12:32.4, 14th out of 72 collegiate women. Junior Laurel Fiddler (Crowley Lake, Calif.) was right behind in 15th at 12:33.1, and junior Sadie James (Avon, Maine) finished Bates' scoring in 17th (12:35.6).
Junior Nathan Moreau (Falmouth, Maine) led the Bates men's team for the frst time this season, placing 23rd out of 69 collegiate men. Moreau finished the 10K freestyle race in 22:49.1. Junior captain Max Millslagle (Bend, Ore.) was 26th in 22:54.5 and sophomore Parker McDonald (Wolcott, Colo.) came in 27th in 22:56.9.
The Bates women scored 82 carnival points in the event, one shy of Middlebury for fourth most out of 13 squads.
The UVM Carnival concludes with classical technique races on Sunday.
