RIPTON, Vt. -- The Bates Nordic and alpine teams combined to finish in seventh place out of 16 teams at the NCAA Regionals this weekend. They finished with 410 carnival points, 50 points ahead of eighth place St. Lawrence.
On Sunday, Sadie James '17 (Avon, Maine) capped off an excellent carnival weekend with a 12th place finish out of 68 competitors in the women's 15K classical technique. James clocked in at 45:11.6, earning 30 carnival points and 22 NCAA points. This comes on the heels of her 14th place finish in the 5K freestyle on Saturday.
Team captain Grace Wright '16 (Rutland, Vt.) earned 18 carnival points, finishing in 30th place with a time of 47:28.3.
Britta Clark '16 (Ripton, Vt.) tallied carnival points for the second straight day with a 35th place finish. She clocked in at 48:17.8, earning 16 carnival points along the way.
The mass start event saw the women's Nordic team finish 8th out of 12 schools with 64 carnival points, one point behind Colby College and two points behind Harvard.
Senior Corky Harrer (Minneapolis, Minn.) led the way for the men's Nordic team in the 20K classical technique mass start race. He finished 30th out of 59 racers with a time of 51:06.2, earning 19 carnival points.
Nathan Moreau '17 (Falmouth, Maine) finished the race in 51:46.9, good for 36th place and 14 carnival points. Wade Rosko '17 (Dillon, Colo.) also contributed to Bates' score, earning seven carnival points with a time of 54:16.3.
The NCAA Regionals mark the end of the carnival season for the Bates alpine and Nordic teams. Select skiers will get to compete in the NCAA Championships March 9-12 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
