Women's Nordic team finishes 5th in 5K freestyle at NCAA Regionals

RIPTON, Vt. -- Sadie James finished 14th out of 67 competitors to lead the Bates women's Nordic team to a 5th place finish in the 5K freestyle race Saturday at the NCAA Regionals.

James '17 (Avon, Maine) finished the race with a time of 13:05.1, good for 28 carnival points and 18 NCAA points. 

The women's Nordic team combined for 72 carnival points for a fifth place finish, edging rival Colby College by one point. 

Laurel Fiddler '17 (Crowley Lake, Calif.) finished the race in 13:09.5, good for 20th place and 23 carnival points. She also picked up 11 NCAA points. 

Britta Clark '16 (Ripton Vt.), skiing in her hometown, finished in 25th with a time of 13:16.1. She contributed 21 carnival points and tallied six NCAA points. 

Among the men's Nordic skiers, Corky Harrer '16 (Minneapolis, Minn.) stood out, placing 27th out of 65 racers with a time of 23:44.1 in the 10K freestyle. He tallied 22 carnival points and picked up four NCAA points.

Nathan Moreau '17 (Falmouth, Maine) and Parker McDonald '18 (Wolcott, Colo.) also contributed to the men's score with 45th and 52nd place finishes respectively.

The women's and men's Nordic teams finish up the NCAA Regionals Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. The women will be competing in the 15K classical technique mass start while the men compete in the 20K classical technique mass start.  

Combined with the alpine teams' scores in the slalom from Friday, Bates currently sits in seventh place out of 16 teams with 204 carnival points.
