LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 18 Bates women's squash team picked up victories from their top two players but fell to No. 12 Williams by a score of 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the Bates Squash Center in the Maine Round Robin.
For the second straight day, first-years Kristyna Alexova and Vicky Arjoon won their matches at the No. 1 and 2 positions respectively.
Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic) took down Nicole Friedman 3-1 (10-12, 11-3, 11-6, 11-2) and Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) won a tight five-set match against Hayley Parsons 3-2 (9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7).
Senior co-captain Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) won her fifth straight match as she topped Lily Grant at the No. 6 spot 3-1 (14-12, 11-9, 13-15, 11-8).
Of the six matches the women's team lost on Saturday, the Bobcats (1-6) took three of them to four sets.
Bates looks to finish off the Maine Round Robin on a good note as they take on No. 20 St. Lawrence Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at the Bates Squash Center.
