AMHERST, Mass. -- The No. 18 Bates women's squash team picked up wins at the No. 1 and No. 9 positions in a 7-2 loss to No. 16 Amherst Sunday afternoon in the Pioneer Valley Invitational.
First-year Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic)Â defeated Kimberly Krayacich in four sets at the No. 1 position (11-2, 6-11, 11-7, 11-4). Blair Weintraub '18 (New York, N.Y.) won at the No. 9 position 3-1 (11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 11-2) over Corri Johnson.
Three of the seven matches Bates dropped went the full five sets, swinging the event in Amherst's favor. Another one went four sets.Â
The women's team returns to action Sunday, January 24 as they take on Franklin & Marshall at 10:00 a.m. at Harvard University.Â
