LEWISTON, Maine -- Only hours before playing in the program's first NCAA tournament game, the Bates College men's lacrosse team placed four players on the NEILA All-New England Division III team, while Peter Lasagna was named Coach of the Year, as the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced its All-New England teams on Wednesday.

Sophomores Charlie Fay (Falmouth, Maine), Fred Ulbrick (Fairfield, Conn.) and Kyle Weber (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) were all honored as All-New England selections, as was junior Jack Allard (Ridgewood, N.J.). Fay was named to a First Team midfielder, while Ulbrick was picked for the First Team Defense. Allard is a Second Team selection at attack, and Weber made Honorable Mention at midfield.

This is Lasagna's second coaching award this season, after receiving NESCAC Co-Coach of the Year honors last week. The three-time NESCAC Coach of the Year has coached the Bobcats to their most wins (10) in his 15-year tenure, and the team was selected for the first time in team history to play in the NCAA Division III Championship tournament. Bates hosts Keene State in a first-round matchup Wednesday at 7pm.

Ulbrick led Bates' excellent corps of close defenseman, who played an enormous role in the Bobcats' owning the best goals-against average in the NESCAC (9.13). He has started in every game of his career thus far. Ulbrick has collected 33 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers this season, and even scored his first career goal in Bates' 14-11 win at Wesleyan in the NESCAC Championship quarterfinals.

Since he returned from injury and joined Bates' lineup on March 25 against Keene State, Fay has led the Bobcats to a 7-2 record. His career-high five goals led Bates to perhaps its biggest win in team history, the April 7 12-8 triumph at Tufts, which ended the defending NCAA champion Jumbos' 24-game winning streak. Fay has scored four or more goals in six games and ranks second in the NESCAC in goals per game (3.22) and fifth in points per game (3.78). In NESCAC games he led the conference with 25 goals, despite missing four out of 10 league games.

Allard ranks third in the NESCAC in goals scored (42), fifth in points (56) and 21st in assists (14), all career-high numbers for Bates' most prolific scorer since Jack Sandler '02. Allard had seven games this season with five or more points; some of his biggest games coincided with Bates' biggest games, such as his four goals and two assists in Saturday's NESCAC quarterfinals at Wesleyan; his four goals and one assist in the Tufts win; and five goals in Bates' 11-9 win at Trinity March 14. Allard also exploded for seven goals and two assists at Keene State on March 25.

Known for shooting at high velocity with either hand, Weber joins Fay as one of the most dangerous midfield scorers in the region. He has started all 15 games this season and ranks fourth on the team in goals (20), fourth in assists (13) and fifth in points (33).
