HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Bates women's lacrosse team came up just short in a seesaw affair with Stevens Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon, falling 11-8 in their second game of the weekend. The closely fought battle included five lead changes and six ties, before Stevens pulled away in the final minutes of competition.

The Bobcats (3-2, 1-1 NESCAC) were led by junior Emma Brinkman (Rye, N.Y.) and senior Emma Getsinger (Darien, Conn.) who combined for five goals on the day. Brinkman scored three goals, and Getsinger notched a pair of scores. Junior Moriah Greenstein (Glenmont, N.Y.) led the team with three assists, while also scoring a goal.

The first ten minutes of play included a flurry of scoring, with Stevens taking the first lead less than three minutes into the half. Bates responded immediately when sophomore Sydney Cowles (Wayne, Pa.) won the ensuing draw and Getsinger tied things up with her first goal of the afternoon. The Bobcats took their first lead of the game less than a minute later when Brinkman won the draw and Getsinger scored her second goal in less than a minute.

After a Stevens' goal from Erika Wilcox tied the game for the second time, Bates' junior goal keeper Hanna Jeffrey (Greenwich, Conn.) stepped up with a big save on a Ducks free position shot and Brinkman scored her first goal of the day on a feed from Greenstein to put the Bobcats ahead 3-2. The score remained that way for the next 12 minutes, until Brinkman netted her second goal of the half on a free position shot to give Bates the 4-2 lead.

The Ducks responded with three goals in the final two minutes of the half, taking a 5-4 lead into the intermission. Bates wasted no time tying the game in the second half though, as Cowles found the back of the net on a free position shot to even the score at 5-5.

After consecutive goals by Stevens put the Ducks ahead by a pair, first-year Teal Otley (Cumberland, Maine) scored off of a Ducks turnover with an assist from Greenstein to pull Bates within one. First -year Camille Belletete (Jaffrey, N.H.) won the ensuing draw and Greenstein tied the affair yet again with a goal at the 24:54 mark.

Bates took the lead one last time on a score from Brinkman, who again took the feed from Greenstein to give her team an 8-7 advantage. But Stevens tied the game less than a minute later, and went up for good on a goal from Mariel Haubrich on a free position score with 19:20 to go. The Ducks scored three more goals over the final 18 minutes of play to set the final score at 11-8.

Hannah Jeffrey recorded 13 saves on the afternoon and Cowles won three draws for Bates. The Bobcats return to action Wednesday, March 11 when they travel to Babson College for a 6:00 p.m. match up.
