NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- Bates women's lacrosse senior midfielder
Caroline Keating is the first Bobcat in a decade to earn IWLCA All-America honors, as announced Friday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Only 57 athletes in the country were named IWLCA Division III All-Americans and Keating (Rye, N.Y.) is a third team All-America selection. She was previously named first team All-Region and second team All-NESCAC. Keating is the 19th All-American in Bates women's lacrosse history and the first since
Hannah Jeffrey '16 and
Moriah Greenstein '16 both earned All-America recognition in 2016.
The do-everything midfielder wraps up her collegiate career with 211 draw controls, the second-most in Bates women's lacrosse history.
She tallied a career-high 64 draw controls this year, including 11 in one game against Connecticut College. Keating also found the back of the net 30 times, dished out 10 assists, and recorded 39 ground balls this season, all career-highs. Keating ranked seventh in the NESCAC in draw controls per game and eighth in ground balls per game.
Besides her huge game in Bates' win over the Camels, some of Keating's top performances this year included four goals, four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls at Claremont, three goals, four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls in a 19-8 win over Redlands, three goals and five draw controls against eventual NESCAC champion Middlebury, four goals and seven draw controls in an 18-6 win over Plymouth State, and four goals, two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and four draw controls at Tufts.
Keating helped the Bobcats make the NESCAC tournament for the second straight season, as Bates fell in the quarterfinal to national powerhouse Middlebury.
