LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Bates senior Hallie Grossman finished her outstanding collegiate career Friday with a career-best 24th-place finish in the women's 15K classical technique race at the NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships.

Racing in her eighth and final NCAA race, Grossman (South Burlington, Vt.) finished the Mt. Hoevenburg course in 51:22.8. She moved up from 28th place after her first turn through the stadium to 24th place after two, then maintained her position over the final five kilometers. Grossman finished 19.6 seconds ahead of 25th-place skier Mackenzie Kanady of Alaska-Anchorage, and 14.6 seconds behind 23rd-place Kathrin Schratt of Alaska-Anchorage.

The previous best NCAA finish for Grossman, who is the first Bates woman to compete at NCAAs in all four years of college, was her 25th-place showing in the women's 15K freestyle race in 2014.

The National Collegiate Skiing Championships conclude Saturday morning at Whiteface Mountain with the final alpine events. Bates sophomore Kelsey Chenoweth (Stowe, Vt.) will compete in the women's slalom.
